Hummel

LOESS CUVÉE

2015

Horst Hummel is a well-regarded winemaker in Hungary’s southernmost wine region, Villány. Although Horst is from Germany, his ancestors were Swabians who lived in the Austro-Hungarian Empire since the 18th century. The winery was certified organic in 2008 and biodynamic in 2016.

Hummel's Loess Cuvée is a blend of Portugieser, Kékfrankos and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on the loess-rich organic vineyards surrounding the village of Villány. The nose is meaty, with violets and four fruits jam. Bright raspberry and blueberry appear on the palate, with high acidity and a long herbal finish. Fermentation was spontaneous with native yeasts in stainless steel; the wine was then aged partially in 228 L Burgundy barrique barrels and partially in stainless steel. Unfiltered and unfined. Certified organic.
