ZÖLDVELTELINI RÁTHONYI-DOMB

2020

Villa Tolnay is located at the foot of the volcanic Csobánc hill, on the northern shore of Lake Balaton in western Hungary. The ancient volcanic soils and primeval sediments of the former Pannonian Sea give the wines an unmistakably volcanic expression.

This Zöldveltelini (Grüner Veltliner) is from the Ráthonyi-Domb vineyard on Csobánc. The grapes were picked by hand, and the wine was fermented spontaneously in 750-1500 liter Austrian Stockinger barrels for 12 months. Aromas of green apple, white pepper and spices are met with pear, grapefruit and pomelo on the palate. Firm body and lengthy finish, with a pronounced fresh acidity. Organic farming.

From Wine Enthusiast: “Scents of Seckel pear, quince, dried apricot and flint waft from the glass. Peach and honeydew flavors are joined by rosewater, nutmeg and vanilla bean notes that culminate in a vivid, spice- and flower-strewn finish.” (93 Points / Editor’s Choice, December 2023)
